Blueprint your Penn International At Glenn's Tackle, let our reel-smiths blueprint your Penn International Reel.
Why blueprint your reel? The same reason you blueprint a performance engine - extract the maximum capabilities from the engineered design!
Blueprinting means increased performance - over the factory-stock product - and gives you - the sportfisherman - increased confidence in your tackle.
What is reel blueprinting? During any manufacturing process, there are many opportunities for inconsistency. In today's world, these inconsistencies are slight, and allows the delivery of very high quality products to mass markets. The mass market production process however, demands certain methods (such as stamping versus machining,) that introduce slack into the engineered design.
Reel blueprinting brings your Penn International Reel to as close as possible to the original engineering design specifications; the bottom line is increased performance - better freespool - increased drag at strike - and a smoother drag during fighting - from your tackle.
Glenn's Tackle reel blueprinting may include (depending upon the Penn International model you have) some or all of the following:
- A thorough examination is made of each reel.
- Rough edges or burrs are smoothed out.
- Bearing with nylon shields may be replaced after drag enhancement.
- Reconfiguration and grinding of spring washers (adjacent to the pinion gears on the spool spindle). These are ground to exact specifications. This delivers a lot of the drag pressure gain.
- Lapping and polishing of the drag pressure plate - this maintains a consistent level surface. The principal is the same as turning a brake drum or disk - get the geometry absolute! In this case - flat as a mirror. Plate and spool are inscribed allowing re-alignment at the next rebuild service.
- Installation of a bearing sleeve - frees the spool bearings of side-way drag pressure - this allows the spool to spin freely (freespool)
- Peening of the main (low) gear screws to prevent loosening - this allows you to get the most out of your equipment.
- We break the reel down completely and any parts in need of replacement are replaced.
